Every Travel Problem Has a Solution

Here are practical suggestions to follow if the unexpected happens during a trip

Published on August 18th, 2023 in Travel Tips

If you can relax and keep a clear head, you’ll find every problem has a solution (and maybe an opportunity). Here are practical suggestions to follow if the unexpected happens during a trip:

You lose your passport, or it’s stolen.

Save a copy of your passport to your phone and leave another copy in your room’s safe and/or with a trusted friend or family member back home. Then contact the U.S. embassy or consulate in the country you’re visiting for assistance.

You get sick.

When packing, make sure you have an adequate supply of your prescription medications (plus a few extra), along with over-the-counter medicines you might need. Stay hydrated and avoid dairy products and alcohol. If you’re seriously ill or injured, call emergency responders at your location.

Your bags are lost or delayed.

Bring just a carry-on and personal item if possible. You can also use an Apple Air Tag (for iPhone users) or Tile (for Android users) to help locate your luggage. If your bags are due to show up in a day or two, alleviate discomfort by packing a change of clothes in your carry-on, along with your medications and travel-size toiletries.

In all likelihood, your vacation will be fun and memorable. But if the unexpected happens, take care of yourself and make sure you’re protected against the unforeseen. This includes signing up for an Emergency Assistance Plus membership. As an EA+ member, you can take peace of mind with you knowing that should a medical emergency arise, there’s a team of highly skilled professionals at the ready to ensure you are receiving proper medical care and are provided necessary transportation home.
